On the final week of the school term, Tytherington School hosted its annual Spring Concert event showcasing the best musical talent the school has to offer. The Mayors of Macclesfield and Cheshire East were amongst the several hundred guests at the event.

Well over 100 students took part. There were several spectacular solo and ensemble pieces from across the age range and including staff. The following students gave solo performances: Sarah Bailey (vocal solo), Alice Watson (vocal solo), Dougie Skelton (a range of instruments during his performance), Caitlin Lancaster (piano solo), Lili Holland-Fricke (cello solo) and Charlotte Foden (vocal solo).

It was great to see a number of different bands and choirs represented. These included performances from the Jazz band, Junior choir, Steel Drum Band, Senior String Group, Junior String Group, Brass Group, Senior Choir, Flute Group and Concert Band. We were also thrilled with a Guitar Duet from Sam Frost and James Lawrence who performed a self-written piece called “Spa Weekend Dreams”.

Musical opportunities for students at Tytherington School continue to go from strength to strength. Mr Liley, Head of Music, said: “The quality of the performances just gets better every year. This is down to the students’ dedication and hard work”.

Manny Botwe, Headteacher, added: “We have a fantastic department here. One in ten students took part in the concert which is a tremendous achievement. They were brilliant. We want the full range of our students to take part in high quality musical performances. Mr Liley and Miss Leishman are dedicated members of staff whose passion is taking music at Tytherington School to another level.”
