Tytherington School Students Honoured for Community Engagement by the Rotary Club

Six students have been hounored by the Rotary Club as Tytherington School Students of the Term. The criteria for the awards was engagement in the local community. The winners were as follows (left to right in picture): Maddy Blunn (Year 10), Honor Rowlands (Year 9), Diego Fryer (6th Form), Esther Bird (Year 7), James Bridge (Year 11) and Will Nettle (Year 8). The awards were presented by John Sherwood, Chair of Youth Service Committee and President, Keith Dobson.

All of the recipients have been involved in some form of community charity project. Esther Bird in Year 7 is a key member of the school charity committee. Will Nettle had the idea to run the Macc 5K as part of a team raising money for an automatic external defibrillator for his old primary school (Puss Bank). He was the first finisher for the team and they raised £300. Honor Rowlands in Year 9 organised a number of school events to raise in excess of £2,500 for the fantastic charity, ‘Once Upon a Smile’. Amongst several other things, Maddy in Year 10 was a driving force behind the organisation of the Tytherington’s Grandparents Day. Outside of school James Bridge in Year 11 is a dedicated member of the Cadets. Within this organisation he freely volunteers his time to help raise money for charity through activities such as sponsored runs and bag packs. As well as this James has assisted with collecting for the Poppy appeal on several occasions over recent years. Diego is an invaluable and well thought of volunteer as a member of the Royal volunteering service. Members volunteer in their free time to support staff, patients and visitors at Macclesfield Hospital.
