On behalf of the whole Tytherington community, I would like to congratulate the Sixth Form class of 2021 for their wonderful achievements. This year group have had to endure significant disruption to their Sixth Form experience, but they have overcome the challenge through sheer grit and determination.

In line with the other local schools, we will not be releasing headline measures this year although what I will say is that we are celebrating another set of strong results. We are particularly proud of the progress students have made in relation to their starting points.

A number of students achieved three or more A*/A/Distinction* grades and I would like to take this opportunity to formally congratulate them on their exceptional achievement:

As you will know, beyond the headlines there are so many stories of students who have achieved against the odds or have faced tremendous challenges. I could name so many students who have done very well. I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight a few students who exemplify the achievement of the students in Year 13:

Kai Buxton and Jim Sidaway achieved the highest value-added scores in the Sixth Form. This is based on progress made from GCSE. Kai has secured a place to read Biological Sciences at the University of Liverpool and Jim is reading Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Loughborough.

Toby Morton-Collings has secured a place to read Chemistry at the University of Oxford.

Hannah Booth secured a prestigious Degree Apprenticeship with Barclays.

Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Brennan, said: “I am exceptionally proud of the determination and resilience our students have demonstrated this year. They are a fantastic group of young people who I know will continue to flourish in the years ahead. I know they leave us with many fond memories of their time at Tytherington”.

When I arrived as Headteacher, this year group was in Year 8. I am delighted with the progress the students have made during this time and I am excited to see what they will achieve in the future. We have a very proud comprehensive tradition at our Sixth Form and I’m pleased that we have the full range of students moving on to top universities, apprenticeships and the world of work. The hard work of our students combined with the passion of our staff has really paid off for so many youngsters.
