Dear Families,

Re: Proposals to extend the school day on Thursdays from September 2022

As you will be aware from my communication to you two weeks ago, we are in the process of reviewing the structure of the school day. After a period of unprecedented disruption to learning, it is important to ensure that we offer a curriculum that is best suited to the needs of the students.

Please find below the proposed new structure of the week which will extend the school day for years 9-11 on Thursdays so that the day ends at the same time as the other days in the week. Subject to trustee approval, this will mean an additional taught lesson each week for those year groups. We will keep the Electives in place for years 7 and 8. The additional time will ensure that we are able to introduce timetabled Personal Development lessons in Years 10 and above for the first time as well as increasing the amount of teaching time for other subjects. We will also be increasing the amount of Physical Education that is taught in upper school.

We know that students and families value taught lessons for Personal Development so this represents a significant investment in preparing youngsters for the 21st Century world.

We plan to continue to offer the very wide range of extra-curricular activities such as school productions, public speaking, the various music ensembles, and the tremendous range of sporting teams.

Proposed change to the school week from September 2022 – below is the day model which would operate from Monday to Friday.

NB: Currently we have a shorter lunch time and school finishes earlier for years 9-11 on Thursdays. You can access the current structure of the day and the week via:
