Tytherington students have been taking a lead on raising money for local charities as part of the House System. Since September, the House system has been reinvigorated with an emphasis on students taking a lead on a range of events around the school and fundraising for local charities.

This term Ash house raised over £1200 for East Cheshire Hospice. Leah Goodhind from the organisation gave a special assembly to Ash House and was presented with a cheque this week. This is not the only fundraising which students have been involved in this year. Michael Clarke in year 8 organised a series of fundraising events this term which raised £2418 for Christies. The activities included a non-school uniform day, a series of cake sales and a staff car wash. Although students were asked to donate £1 as part of the non-school uniform day, many students donated more. Michael Clarke, year 8, said: “I’m so pleased at the amount we have raised for such a great cause and an organisation that have been so supportive to both me and my family through difficult times”.

Emmanuel Botwe, Headteacher, said: “We can all remember being part of a House at school. We want to provide students with a feeling of belonging and community. We also want to give students the opportunity to lead across the school and the local area. All of our charity events are student planned and led which I feel means they have a greater impact.”
