Tytherington School is a Centre of Sporting Excellence

Tytherington School is fast becoming a centre of sporting excellence in the Macclesfield area. Recently the Year 9 football team reached the last four of the national cup and the school boasts several county, regional and international sports men and women.

During the Easter Holiday, year 7 students, Charlie Edwards was selected to go on tour to Spain with Stoke City Under 12s for the Mediterranean International Cup. The Potters reached the last four of the tournament eventually losing to Real Madrid on penalties. Barcelona were the eventual winners. Charlie Edwards said,: “I really enjoyed the competition and had a great time.”

Another student who is currently excelling at Sport at Tytherington School is Lauren Robinson in Year 9. She recently represented Cheshire in the National Cross Country Championships where she cemented her reputation as one of the best runners for her age group.

Headteacher, Manny Botwe, said: “You’ll be aware of our school’s unique focus on developing leadership skills. We believe that sport is a very important way for students to develop confidence and resilience, which are key components of excellent leadership”.

On Monday 11th April, Tytherington School will be hosting Ben Smith who is raising awareness and money for Kidscape and Stonewall with his 401 Challenge which involves him running 401 consecutive marathons. He will be talking to students about the charities and his own personal story.
