Getting to Know you

This section aims to reassure you that the teachers in your new school have tried to find out as much as they can about you before you start.

We don’t know everything but…

Before you leave your Primary School, your Year 6 teachers will have met Mrs Healey (Assistant Headteacher) to exchange information and to discuss you and every other student who will be starting with you.

The sort of things they talk about include not only how good you are in various subjects but things which tell them about you as a person; your attitude, friendships, interests and so on. This all helps Mrs Healey put you in the most suitable tutor group, and makes sure that you get the most out of your first days at secondary school.

Friendship Form

You must write down a maximum of three friends that you would like to be in the same tutor group with. You must write down their full name and the primary school they attend. It is very important to remember that you may not be with all three friends but you will definitely be with at least one friend.

Secondary School Life

This section tells you some of the things you need to know before you move schools and immediately after starting. It also tries to reassure you about some of the issues that often worry new students until they get used to things.

During the summer term before you arrive

Mrs Healey (Assistant Headteacher) will have visited your Primary School and will have had the opportunity to meet with you to find out what you are all like and to give you a chance to meet them and ask any questions you may have.

Intake Day

You will be invited to visit your new school on Tuesday 5th July 2016 for Intake Day. As part of your day you will meet your new tutor.

You will also spend the day in your new form and you will have the opportunity to see the school at work and take part in some lessons. Please bring writing equipment and a notebook for this visit. You will get a letter explaining all this after Easter.

Intake Evening

You and your parents will also be invited to visit your new school on Intake Evening, Tuesday 5th July 2016. They will have the chance to meet your tutor and members of the year team and find out more about starting at Tytherington.

The First Days

Finding your way around the school and learning its routines will be one of your main tasks during the first few days.

On the first day of school only Year 7, 12 & 13 will be in school. You will spend the first day in your tutor group taking part in activities to get to know the school and each other better.

During the first week, you will be escorted by older pupils to your lessons and there will be extra people around at break, lunch times and after school for the first week or so to help all Year 7 children during this settling in period.

You will also receive a welcome booklet which has all the answers to they key questions you may have and map of the school to help you find you way around.
