Mr Caine

It is with great regret and sadness that I inform you of the death of the much-loved Maths teacher Mr Matthew Caine. Mr Caine sadly passed away yesterday.  I have spoken to his wife Hayley and she wanted me to pass on how much he enjoyed working at Tytherington and how well supported he felt being in the Maths Team.

Mrs Caine is also very appreciative of all the wonderful memories and messages the school has received over the past few days. The messages show just how much Mr Caine was loved and how sorely he will be missed.

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest sympathy to his wife and small child.

Mr Caine was a great teacher who arrived at Tytherington in September 2015. What made him great was that he treated the youngsters he taught as human beings, with dignity and respect. This is best illustrated by a message that was sent in by one of his students earlier this week:

“Mr Caine is one of the funniest teachers that I have ever had, so much so that I always really looked forward to Maths lessons. He did so much for my class and everyone respected him a great deal. He always cheered us up when we were struggling to rearrange equations or felt that we couldn’t do Maths in general, mainly through cheesy puns and jokes. I still remember those so well.”

A book of condolence will be available to sign in the school reception.

I will keep families informed of any further information.

Take care

Mr Botwe

  1. Mr Caine would always know how to put a smile on your face, whether it was holding a door open for you to walk through or a joke told in class. My favourite was when anyone asked for a ruler, you could guarantee his reply would be, “Is Henry VIII good enough?” Thank you sir!

  2. I just wanted to say how deeply saddened and shocked I was to hear of Mr Caine’s death. He has been a fantastic support to my daughter Lilly, and she really enjoyed her lessons with him – she has always struggled with confidence in maths and Mr Caine was so positive and supportive to her. I remember meeting him at parents evening last term and being really impressed with his ability to understand Lilly and her needs, and provide such a friendly, personable and positive report on her progress and her potential to succeed. We send you all our love at this incredibly difficult time x
